All democracies need strong and well-established
parties to channel the demands of their citizens,
govern in the public good and satisfy the basic needs
of their societies. However, political parties currently
don’t fare well in public opinion surveys and
dissatisfaction with their performance seems to be
growing. This ‘Handbook’ seeks to contribute to the strengthening and development of all political parties in nations that want to improve the quality of their democracy. To regain the trust of the people, a political party must be able to seriously and systematically tackle the issues highlighted here. Overall, this Handbook reflects trends in the democratic development of Latin America, Africa, and Central Europe.
