From May 19th to 21st, 2023, Ljubljana became the hub of regional collaboration and knowledge exchange as the Regional Integrity Initiative of the National Democratic Institute hosted its regional Anti-Corruption & Party Finance Academy. The event, opened by Mija Javornik, Vice President of Social Democrats Slovenia (SD), welcomed social democratic party representatives from across Southeastern Europe.
A lineup of seasoned speakers from the International IDEA and the University of Copenhagen enriched the event with their expert insights, with discussions primarily revolving around political finance transparency and the fight against corruption.
The Academy served as a platform to equip the region's social democratic party representatives with the necessary tools to lead integrity reforms within their organizations. The focus was set on promoting transparency in political finance, ensuring fair candidate selection processes, and facilitating the participation of marginalized groups in party decision-making.
The event demonstrated NDI's commitment to fortifying democracy in the region by strengthening political parties, and fostering a culture of transparency, inclusivity, and integrity.
